About the UK Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is a fee paid by people coming to the UK on a visa for 6 months or longer. It gives you access to the National Health Service (NHS) during your stay.
Current Rates (2024):
• Students and dependants: £776 per year
• Under 18 applicants: £776 per year
• Other visa types: £1,035 per year
Payment Rules:
• 6 months or less (outside UK): No charge
• 6 months or less (inside UK): Half the yearly cost (£388)
• More than 6 months but less than 1 year: Full year cost
• 1-1.5 years: 1 year + half year cost
• More than 1.5 years but less than 2 years: 2 years cost
• Over 2 years: add full years + part-year rules (≤6 months = half, >6 months = full)
